Why is an established class association so important?

Because one-design class boats:

  • are easier to locate on the used market
  • have higher resale value
  • are easier to get parts for
  • have support from other owners with regards to maintenance, sailing, and racing tips
  • are easy to race against other boats because they have established handicap numbers
  • possess a reputation (and often prestige) among sailors

boats without class associations lack many of these advantages.
