What do all those abbreviations I keep hearing stand for?

TNT - Thursday Night Thing - What we do when we get together Thursday nights in the Summer (sailing and casual racing).

RC - Race Committee

DNC - Did Not Start - did not come to starting area

OCS - Did Not Start - on the course side of the starting line at starting signal

DNS - Did Not Start - other than DNC or OCS

DNF - Did Not Finish

DFL - Dead Freakin' Last (slang)

DSQ - Disqualification

RDG- Redress given

FIP - Finished in place

PSCA - Pickwick Sailing and Cruising Association - sailing club based at Aqua Harbor at Pickwick (dammed section of Tennessee River); races sloops using PHRF handicapping.

DSA - Delta Sailing Association - the only other Memphis-based sailing club. They are organized around the Lightning, Thistle, & Hobie classes, and sail only at Arkabutla Reservoir, MS.

PHRF - Performance Handicap Racing Fleet - a decades old handicap system used principally for sloops of various designs based initially on theoretical boat speeds then tweaked based on observation, administered in regions which may make rating changes within regions as well as by clubs which may make changes within fleet to level the playing field (think golf handicapping for the fleet level changes).

TVCC - Tennessee Valley Challenge Cup - An annual team regatta among the 7 yacht clubs along the Tennessee River. There are 3 divisions: sloop w/ spinnaker, sloop w/o spinnaker, and dinghy. Each division competes for its own trophies. In addition, the scores of the top (3) finishers from each club in each division are totaled to derive a club score in competition for the perpetual cup held by the winning club for a year.
