Notice of Race for the 2008 Fall Series

General
The schedule for this series sponsored by the Tornado Alley Sailing Club may be found on the Schedule Page of our website.

Notes:
1. Other date(s) may be added at the discretion of the Race Committee Chairman. 

2. Skipper's Meeting will be at 2:00pm on all race days (unless otherwise noted). Races will not begin before the RC adjourns the Skipper's Meeting.
3. Location for each race may need to be changed by the Race Committee. Notice of any changes will be posted on the Forum and, as possible, will also be shown on the Schedule page. Please check both before leaving to go to any race-day.

The races shall be governed by:

In the event of a conflict, the Sailing Instructions will prevail. The Sailing Instructions may invoke rule changes as allowed for in Rule 86. TASC seasonal racing series are designated as Category 'A' Events, in accordance with Appendix G.

Eligibility
In order to be eligible to participate in TASC Sponsored Events, all skippers are required to complete, sign and submit a Registration/Hold Harmless Form for each calendar year.

Races conducted by TASC are open to all members of the club with a sailboat listed in the Centerboard Classes table of US Sailing's annual North American Portsmouth Yardstick or with a provisional rating established by the Race Committee chair.

Guests: Any non-member sailor, with a sailboat listed in the Centerboard Classes table of US Sailing's annual North American Portsmouth Yardstick, may participate after completing and signing a Registration Form. Other center/daggerboard sailboats not listed in the Portsmouth Yardstick which wish to race shall be considered by the TASC Race Committee for eligibility. No guests are eligible to have their finish standings recorded in the TASC Racing Record, or to receive any trophy or other official recognition for their performance in the race. These privileges are reserved for club members. Special guest privileges will be extended to visiting yachtsmen who are members of other yacht or sailing clubs who have properly registered for TASC hosted regattas. Such guests are entitled to full recognition for placement and trophies as are otherwise reserved for TASC club members.

Race Validity:
Races shall only be considered valid if two (2) or more boats sailed by eligible members complete the course.

One Design Class Division
If three (3) or more sailboats of one design intend to race in a separate start as a class, as long as there are three (3) other sailboats also racing in a Portsmouth handicapped race, then a One Design Class Division may be established and those boats given their own start to compete under class rules, at the discretion of the Race Committee.

Registration
To register to race in the Series, each skipper must complete a registration/Hold Harmless form, available from the Race Committee Chairman.

Registration Fees
There are no fees to enter races, but to be included in the TASC Racing Record, a skipper's TASC membership dues must be paid in full.

Late Entries
TASC welcomes late entries to the Series. Those wanting to be recorded officially in the TASC Racing Record, and eligible for prizes, if any,  must join the Club.

Courses
Course details will be given during each pre-race Skippers Meeting. In addition, all boats are to come within hail of the Race Committee prior to the start of each race for updates.

Scoring System
The Low-Point Averaged Scoring System, Apprendix AA of the Racing Rules, will apply. In order to qualify for series trophies, a boat must be scored in at least 60% of the races completed. For the purposes of this calculation, each race in which a skipper served as Race Officer (up to 3 races per series) shall be counted towards the 60% threshold. Finishing places and subsequent race scores will be based on elapsed times which will be corrected on a per race basis in accordance with the Portsmouth Yardstick using wind dependent handicap numbers and the Modification Factors in PY Table VI. All double-handed boats sailed single-handed will be penalized according to the modification factors in wind conditions up to and including Beaufort 3.

Sailing Instructions
Sailing Instructions will be posted on the clubs' website at leat one week prior to the day of the race.

Briefing
The briefing to each race of the Series will be given during the Skipper's Meeting by the Race Committee before the first warning signal of the day.

Prizes
Prizes, if any, will be awarded by the TASC Race Committee depending on the number of entries.

Prizegiving
Presentation of prizes, if any, to be announced.

Liability
Tornado Alley Sailing Club (TASC) its officers and representatives, will not accept any liability for loss, damage or injury to participating boats and their crew. Sailboat Racing is an inherently dangerous sport and owners and crew are reminded that at all times the responsibility for the safety of crew, the safety and safe handling of the boat and the decision to participate or to continue to sail/race must rest with the skipper.

By participating in the events covered by this notice of race, competitors agree to hold harmless the Tornado Alley Sailing Club and all TASC officers and representatives, as well as the owners/operators of the sailing venues, against any and all liabilities, damages, losses, expenses, claims or judgements that may arise as a result of their participation in TASC sponsored events. Skippers are strongly advised to ensure that their boats are adequately insured, at the very least against third party risks.

All skippers are required to sign a Registration Form each year, agreeing to the above Statements in order to be allowed to participate in TASC Sponsored Events.
